Equestrian Club

Established in 1997, Sun Island Equestrian Club is an institutional member of the China Equestrian Association (CEA) and currently serves on the council of the Shanghai Equestrian Association. The club combines premium facilities, professional equine care, and a team of elite coaches. Following its comprehensive 2018 renovation, it now operates two indoor arenas (1,800㎡ and 800㎡), a 2,840㎡ outdoor arena, five internationally standardized stables housing over 60 well-trained horses, and employs over a dozen certified equestrian professionals.

Equestrian Coaching Team

Sun Island Equestrian Club in Shanghai currently has 1 head coach, 1 technical director, 1 senior coach, 4 intermediate coaches, and 7 junior coaches, all equipped with comprehensive teaching experience, exam preparation expertise, and competition expertise. The club provides members with internationally certified equestrian programs, selects suitable horses for riding lessons, competitions, and grading exams based on each rider’s skill level, and assists members in registering as Shanghai equestrian athletes (for championships and municipal games) and individual members of the China Equestrian Association (for rider certification exams).

Ruan Xuejun, Head Coach

National equestrian athlete, CEA Level 2 Show Jumping Rider, and certified course designer with 25 years of equestrian experience. Dedicated to training elite junior riders at the club, he aims to elevate them to China’s top-tier competitions through "equestrian spirit." From 2013 to 2021, he led Sun Island’s junior team to multiple national show jumping championships.

Wu Junguo, Technical Director

CEA Level 2 Show Jumping Rider with 27 years of competitive experience and 22 years coaching high-level show jumping. Trained in dressage in Germany and the Netherlands, he earned accolades in European star-rated competitions and brings 15 years of dressage instruction expertise. His philosophy: fostering "love and respect" between riders and their equine partners to guide students toward equestrian mastery.

Lyu Xuemeng, Senior Coach

CEA Level 3 Show Jumping Rider and certified dressage coach specializing in jumping instruction. Notable achievements:
● Team Champion, 120cm class, Road to Bird’s Nest Nanjing-Shanghai Leg 1
● Team Bronze, 120cm class, Leg 2
● 5th Place, 130cm class, National Equestrian Championships

Lin Jiang, Intermediate Coach

CEA Level 1 Show Jumping Rider certified by the 2019 Shanghai Equestrian Association Coach Training Program. Specializes in flatwork and obstacle training. Competition highlights:

An Naride, Intermediate Coach

CEA Level 1 Show Jumping Rider, graduated in 2017 from the Equestrian Program at Hulunbuir Ewenki Banner Vocational High School (Inner Mongolia). Committed to nurturing China’s next generation of riders through technical rigor and mentorship. Focuses on instilling "equestrian values"–courage, resilience, and horsemanship–while advancing his own expertise to fuel the sport’s growth in China.

Gu Jiaxin, Intermediate Coach

CEA Level 2 Show Jumping Rider trained under master coaches since 2016. Assisted in organizing the Aranya Cup Equestrian Tournament (2017).Expertise spans equine training,care, beginner-to-intermediate flatwork/obstacle instruction, and basic course design.

Jiao Hongxi, Junior Coach

22 years of teaching experience in English-style foundational riding and obstacle training. Known for a step-by-step methodology prioritizing safety, he has coached numerous competition-ready riders, consistently achieving top results in exams and regional events.

JShen Hongduo, Junior Coach

A decade of experience at Sun Island Equestrian Club, specializing in youth flatwork and arena training. Designs customized lesson plans tailored to individual learning styles, with a focus on building rock-solid fundamentals for young riders. Repeatedly led students to success in CEA certification exams and junior competitions, praised for his patience and dedication.

Yang Hong, Junior Coach

CEA Level 2 Show Jumping Rider with 17 years of equestrian expertise, specializing in obstacle training and equine healthcare (including professional farrier services). A veteran of high-level East China competitions, she mentors students to represent the club with distinction. Trained at the renowned Shandan Military Horse Farm, her skills bridge competitive rigor and equine welfare.

Gao Liyang, Junior Coach

13 years of youth-focused instruction in arena flatwork and obstacle courses. Passionate about fostering teamwork and adaptability, he combines strong communication skills with proven methods for horse training. His students consistently excel in regional competitions under his guidance.

Yun Fenglin, Junior Coach

CEA One-Star Coach graduating from Hulunbuir Ewenki Banner Vocational High School (2017). Gained foundational experience at Beidaihe British Equestrian Club and Baohu Equestrian Town, refining expertise in youth program development and stable operations.

Tan Liuman, Junior Coach

CEA Level 3 Show Jumping Rider dedicated to safe, theory-driven youth instruction. Former coach at Guilin Jin’an Equestrian Club (2017) and Nanjing Wumazhe Champion Rider Academy (2018). Teaching pillars:

Pan Feng, Junior Coach

Trained through major events like the Aranya Cup Equestrian Grand Prix (2017) and ​Longines China Equestrian Tour (2018). Specializes in competition logistics and rule compliance, leveraging hands-on experience from elite tournaments to optimize student preparation.

Equine Partners

Shanghai Sun Island Equestrian Club currently houses over 60 well-trained horses, including: (European Warmbloods, crossbreeds, Scottish ponies, and domestic breeds), with ongoing plans to expand the herd with additional training and competition horses alongside premium tack and equipment. The facility also features five internationally standardized stables equipped with equine welfare amenities such as tack rooms, warm-water bathing stalls, a farrier workshop, a veterinary clinic, an infrared therapy zone, and saddling areas.
